For the past 8 years, I’ve worked as a middle school, high school, and college writing instructor. I hold a Master’s Degree in Professional and Technical Writing as well as a Graduate Certificate in Online Writing Instruction. I work with students at a wide range of skill levels, helping them strengthen their foundational writing skills, develop their unique writer’s voice, and, most importantly, gain confidence in their ability to clearly express their ideas. My instructional approach is guided by several core beliefs:
Hi, I’m Crystal.
Students learn to write best when they’re coached, not just corrected.
I focus on helping students understand how to write with purpose, making strategic choices for particular audiences, rather than just correcting their work. My strategy aims at helping them write confidently and independently once our sessions end.
In our sessions, I focus on:
Breaking down composition into manageable steps
Teaching clear structure and organization strategies
Guiding students through revision and critical thinking
Building independence and confidence over time
My students say they typically feel less anxious about writing and more able to tackle different writing tasks on their own.
Confidence and clarity grow through consistent, guided practice
I work with middle school, high school, and college students who:
Feel stuck or overwhelmed when starting writing assignments
Want to fill learning gaps like organization or grammar
Need support with specific genres, like research papers or college scholarship essays
Want to strengthen their academic writing for college readiness
Lack confidence in their writer’s voice
I meet each student where they are and tailor instruction to their specific needs and goals.
Writing is a learnable skill, not a talent students either possess or don’t.
I love working with enthusiastic and reluctant writers alike. I’m passionate about helping writers realize composition isn’t something they’re simply “good” or “bad” at, but a set of skills they can develop with practice and the right kind of support.
If you’re looking for personalized writing support for your student, I’d be honored to help.
